Ellen and Ivan have actually been married for a year, but they wanted to do some portraits of them in love for their family. I met up with them in Modesto, and we headed outdoors for some railway shots where they risked getting run over by a train all for the sake of good back light. Seriously. I can't imagine they'll be crossing tracks with me anytime soon. We also did some photos in their home, which was nice and cozy. They were both so good-natured and bright and fun to photograph!
Nikki Kellogg
About a month ago, I was approached to put together an aspiring dancer's portfolio: Nikki Kellogg, 22, is planning to move to L.A. to audition and make a go at becoming a top dancer - she's aiming for Beyonce status so girlfriend needed some top notch photos to show around town. This was an entirely new project for me, and we spent quite a bit of time planning our shoots and what kind of photos she wanted to showcase her looks and talent. We did a combination of "studio-esque" shots with dancing in the street and more traditional head shots. Nikki was really wonderful to work with, which made my job a whole lot easier. Here are just a few of the photos that we made prints of for her final portfolio.
Baby Eli + Baby Lilian Round Two
Remember Eli and Lillian? I had another session with them about a month after the first, and I'm pretty amazed by how quickly they're growing and developing into their own person. I'm very happy to continually photograph them and can't wait to see how they change throughout their first year!
I love the leg-warmers and sandals! So California!
Cindy Chen
Here's a break from the wedding photos... I did a quick photo of my friend Cindy Chen, who is a real estate agent in Modesto (if anyone is thinking about buying a house in Modesto/Central Valley area, contact Cindy and she'll make it happen). We shot at golden hour (right before the sun goes down) at Grace Davis Park in Modesto.
The Negede Family
Susie (far right in the triptych below) is my hair lady, and we had talked about doing a family portrait of her, her son, mother, sister and brother for awhile. So when her brother (who lives in London) came out for a visit last month, it was the perfect opportunity to gather the whole family together for the some photos. We headed to Lake Temescal, which was quiet and empty on a Monday afternoon, and I had a wonderful time photographing her and her beautiful family. They were all so easy to work with and her son was quite the entertainer!
We were visited by a family of ducks!
Baby Eli and baby Lilian
Here's a break from all the wedding photos: I introduce you to Eli and Lillian, six-month old twins. Their parents, Hannah and Martin (who are our landlords) brought them to our house for the first session of many. I'm very excited to follow them for awhile since they change so quickly in their first couple of years so be on the lookout for their recurring appearances on the blog.
I haven't done too many baby portrait sessions, and so I was a little wary of what I was going to be able to do with them, particularly since they're not quite strong enough to sit up on their own yet, and their attention span is still pretty limited. However, we were able to prop them up for a few photos, and they were actually very accommodating models. I love how Lillian's dress matched our bed spread perfectly!
