For the second and third parts of Reshma and Jimmy's engagement session, we shot in San Francisco at McCovey Cove and Baker Beach for the fantastic views of the Golden Gate Bridge. These two are big Giants (and sports in general) fans - Jimmy and his dad even have their own cement block showing their support outside AT&T Park! As an L.A. native, I don't know if I can forgive him for hating on the Dodgers.... At any rate, the light was great, and Reshma and Jimmy muscled through the wind and the cold for a great session!
Reshma + Jimmy Engagement, Part 1
We had a lot of fun with Reshma and Jimmy. I actually knew Jimmy from working with him at the Oakland Tribune a couple of years ago so it was great to catch up and to meet Reshma, who is wonderful! We actually ended up doing three different engagement shoots so check back later in the week for those. For our first shoot, Reshma and Jimmy introduced us to a hidden gem in Morgan Hill: Castillo Winery. The winery is fairly new and owned by a lovely family who gave us free roam of the property for their engagement photos. I immediately headed for the field of mustard flowers, which are so beautiful and only bloom during late winter/early spring. Check out the color!
Ginny + Sep Engagement
Ginny and Sep's engagement session marks the start of our 2010 wedding season, which is shaping up to be a BUSY one (only a few more spots left)! Woohoo! We had a great time photographing these two in San Francisco AND lucked out with a beautiful day! Sep prefaced the session by letting us know that he doesn't enjoy having his picture made, and by the end of the shoot, he was making suggestions for spots to be photographed in. Now, that's the power of the engagement session: not only do you come away with another set of beautiful photos, but if you're shy in front of the camera, it's great practice for your wedding day and you find out that we're not so scary after all!
We started at Sutro Baths, which is amazing, and I'm embarrassed to admit that neither Adm or myself had been there so it was super fun to explore a new place. We wandered in and out of the caves, climbed on mossy rocks, and jumped on springy bushes. Next, we headed to the carousel at Golden Gate Park where I pulled out the viewfinder for a few photos with the square vintage look. Ginny and Sep were so sweet to each other throughout the shoot, and they had great laughs! Their wedding is going to be a blast!
Christy + Miguel Engagement
We started off Miguel and Christy's engagement session at Lyon St. Steps in the Presdio before heading to Union Square for some urban and colorful photos. The light was amazing throughout the entire shoot, and I especially fell in love with the Louis Vuitton store front that had tons of brightly colored lights (above photo). Lucky for us, we took advantage of this display just in time because I was there about a week ago and they had swapped it out! It was so wonderful to photograph Christy and Miguel - they are doing a long distance relationship right now since Christy is in school in San Diego, and you can tell they really value the time they get to spend with one another. We can't wait for their wedding next year in San Francisco!
Laura + Jason Engagement
Laura and Jason are one of our 2010 couples who we met through Hillary and Matt. They wanted more of a natural look surrounded by lots of trees so we began their engagement session at the Redwood Bowl in the Oakland hills. It started off a bit cold and gloomy with some technical difficulties, but by the time we got things rolling, the sun came out as we hit Butters Peak so that we had some gorgeous light and fantastic views of the bay. Laura and Jason are so easygoing and had such wonderful and natural laughs and smiles throughout the shoot. We're really looking forward to their wedding next spring, which will consist of a two-day affair in their hometown Visalia.
Yen Yen + Davin Engagement!
Yen Yen just so happens to be my second cousin, but since we have a very large extended family and grew up on opposite ends of California, I'm just now getting to know her and, of course, Davin. These two are so sweet and easy going that we had a lot of fun going through various parts of downtown San Francisco before ending up at Baker beach. On the sandy hill just above the beach there are a ton of old Cypress trees that have been so windblown that half of their roots are above ground. Yen Yen and Davin were such good sports as I had them climb through the roots and up and down the sandy hill. We're thrilled to photograph their wedding next spring!
