Kylie and Sophia had a super sweet wedding at one of Oakland’s hidden gems, Preservation Park, last fall. We started their day by photographing portraits of just the two of them and we loved wandering the surrounding neighborhood for fun backgrounds, like the purple bougainvillea and all white garage doors.

Maria and Solon were married at Preservation Park in Oakland this past June and man oh man was it a fun wedding. Lots of familiar faces from Katie and Nick's and Lisa and Drew's weddings and so many great moments.

One of our favorite things about living in Oakland is that it's got an amazing (and rare) combination of being an intensely urban city with some of the most stunning natural environment you'll ever see. A ten minute drive from downtown into the hills will bring you to incredible city views and gorgeous redwoods. Emily and Bryan took advantage of this for their Oakland wedding this summer and we loved getting to photograph them in the beauty of our city. They were married at Oakland Nature Friends, a gem of a venue, and were surrounded by lots of love and laughter from their family and friends. Enjoy!

Tomasa and Jesus were married last October, and they had one super fun wedding. As in, mariachi and tequila shots all day long. Take note, if you want your wedding to be a blast, just hire a mariachi band for the day and keep the tequila free flowing. I kid, I kid, kinda. But seriously, there were a lot of new things for us to photograph at their wedding which made our part a lot of fun. For example, we've never seen ladies in heels literally racing around the entire venue as a prelude to the bouquet toss. We've also never seen the groom get launched into the air by his buddies, we're talking way up in the air. With families and traditions like theirs, we know Tomasa and Jesus are in for a fun marriage.

Lucie and Brendan have such a great story! They actually went to high school together but didn't start dating until a couple of years ago! So naturally, what better place to do their engagement photos than at their old high school in Oakland? In addition to hanging out by the lockers, we also hit other fun spots in San Francisco, including Lands End. No matter how many times we photograph that place, it is just so gorgeous we never get tired of it and always seem to find new trees and vistas. Lucie and Brendan are only the second couple we've ever photographed to opt for a morning engagement session so that morning light was also a special treat! These two are getting hitched in September, and we can't wait for the wedding!
Kamika + Amy in Oakland, CA
Happy New Year!! Adm and I hope everyone's 2013 is off to a super start! After taking a mini hiatus from blogging to celebrate the holidays, we've got a bunch of weddings from 2012 to share with you in the coming weeks and lots of fun weddings coming up in 2013. So, without further ado, here are images from our dear friends, Kamika and Amy's Oakland wedding!
I can't talk about Kamika and Amy without sharing the time that they brought over chili and ate with Adm and I on our living room floor. We had our meal on the floor because Adm had a blown disc in his back and hadn't been able to move because of the pain for a month. This was just days before he underwent emergency back surgery. We hadn't smiled or laughed in weeks, but Kamika and Amy made us feel like life was normal again and we weren't going through our misery alone. What a blessing it is to have friends who can flood your darkest days with sunshine. Photographing their wedding and sharing in their joy completely reminded me why I love what we do, and we could not be happier for these two exceptional women.
Our lovely brides had their beautiful ceremony at the Skyline United Church of Christ overlooking the Oakland hills through a grand wall of glass. On the way to the reception, we stopped at an overlook and photographed Kamika and Amy with all the lights of Oakland and San Francisco twinkling behind them. We finished off the evening down the hill at the Sequoyah Country Club for the reception and dancing.
