Stephanie and Calvin had a romantic summer garden wedding at the Outdoor Art Club in Mill Valley last summer. This is such a sweet little venue - it's a turn of the century Bernard Maybeck that reminds me of the craftsman homes in Pasadena I grew up around. Although it's always been a clubhouse its private gardens and patios make you feel as if you're in someone's home. It also sits right in the middle of the town of Mill Valley so there is no shortage of portrait locations. For Stephanie and Calvin's portraits we started in the redwoods at Old Mill Park and then ended by sneaking away for a few minutes during dinner to take more photos in town.
One of the things I love most about weddings are the surprise emotions. We often meet with couples who admittedly have at least one "crier," and truly, if you can't keep it together during a sappy movie, you're 99% likely to cry during your ceremony too. But then we have couples who don't anticipate crying during their wedding and are totally caught off guard by their emotions. I think Stephanie and Calvin fall into this latter category, and so it was extra sweet photographing them tear up during their vows and toasts. 'Twas truly a lovely wedding for an even lovelier couple.
